Classic Mid Century Modern Landscape by DeMan
Now listed on Etsy is this classic mid century modern oil painting. A rather surrealistic painting pf a pier and bridge area lit by a sky of green, yellow and black. Thick impasto lines make up the framework of the piers and bridge. The painting is on Masonite. One resource states that DeMan was a painter from California and would put this in the early 1960's. The painting has held up well for the fifty years or so of it's life and is in very good condition with a few minor scrapes. It will look great in a modern, mid century or eclectic decor scheme. Lovely street painting from post-war Italy
The original owner of this painting was stationed in Post-War (WWII) Italy. Times were difficult for the Italian people and the GI presence helped the economy a little. Some unemployed Italians turned to street art for a small living. This painting was made while GI's and tourists looked on. The same painting would be produced over and over. So, while it is a real painting, it is not unique, except for the variances that came with that particular painting.
Still, it is very lovely. The colors are beautiful and it really gives an Italian charm. It is more of a piece of art than the reproductions sold by big box stores. The painting is on a flat piece of canvas glued to board. It is in very good condition with just a few places where the canvas is pulling from the board. Under a frame it will be perfect. Pacific Northwest themed copper etching.
This is an exquisite etching of black ink on a solid copper plate. The scene is a well done rendition of Mt. Rainier framed by foliage and lake with canoe in foreground. The etching is signed by artist Klaus Grassmann and dated 1974. The plate is mounted on a fabric faced board with hanging hardware attached to back. Copper plate is 9" x 12" and overall dimensions of 12" x 15". A great buy at $45.
