Shades Of Night by Jack Teagarden 1959 Capitol ST1143
Jack Teagarden is considered one of the finest jazz musicians to have played, and certainly the best jazz trombonist. His career began in the 1930's during the big band era. He played for years with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra, which limited his jazz abilities, but later went on to play with Louis Armstrong and others. This is a 1959 solo release. It is amazing to hear his nimbleness in playing such a large instrument with precision. The album does tend to straddle the line between jazz and easy listening, but is a nice listen nonetheless.
The album cover is mostly excellent with the exception of a split edge left, and some chipping top. The back cover has some overall wear. The vinyl now sits behind the cover in a vinyl protective cover to prevent further damage. Original liner is included. The vinyl is excellent with some intermittent pops. The audio samples are recorded as played with no filters. To purchase, click on the main photo for the Gemm site.
