Music For the Sensational Sixties
by Don Elliott
Design Records DLP-69

This is a beautiful album. His voice is sensational, in my opinion. The mix of songs and the intertwining of vocals and orchestration is very nice. The cover art has to be one of my favorites of all time. The cover on this item is imperfect with a couple of sticker tears and some creasing, but is very worth owning.

Here's Liberace by Liberace  Vocalion VL73821

"Here's Liberace" is a live concert performance. This gives the listener the opportunity to hear what Liberace "the performer" was all about. In addition to his piano playing, we hear his participation with the audience that made him a popular performance star. His piano talents are unquestionable., He seemingly glides up and down the keyboard effortlessly. He innovates and bends music. I thought myself as not so much of a fan, but this is a fun album and a great listen. On this album he plays popular music by Gershwin; Mack The Knife (in 5 different styles); Kern and Hammerstein, and others. Vocalion Records. VL73821. Exact year unknown.

Cover has moderate plus overall wear. Good edges and seams. VG+
Vinyl is very good with very little noise. VG++

Music For Peace Of Mind

We start with our first album review, and wish we had picked another.
An interesting album in several respects. First, it is not a record album but a three set collection of 45's in a single theme box. Second, the cover art: a naked woman is wrapped in a gossy material - thick in areas to hide certain parts. She is lying down while floating in ribbons of color. A sort of dreamlike tableau. Finally, the music itself: produced on a Theremin with orchestra. A Theremin is, or was, an electronic instrument. It consists of a transmitter and two hand-held antennas. When the antennas are in the vicinity of the transmitter antenna, it will produce a sound. The sound varies depending on the position and distance from the transmitter.

The theremin was difficult to control. More modern electronics are able to make similar sound but with more precision. Theremin units can apparently still be purchased, though how much they are used is difficult to say.

Set of three 45's in box. Capitol Records CCF 221. Box is VG+ with some overall wear. 45's are VG with surface noise throughout. Audio files are as played without filters.  Available on Gemm.  The primary photo provides a link to the Gemm offering. The second photo provides an email shortcut for any questions.
